Why I Love Fashion?

I believe fashion has many connectivity points for many different women, but my sense of fashion and link to the fashion world began with my mother's love for fashion design.  I was raised in a world of fashion and the arts.  From the time I can remember, my mother has designed and altered clothing for different types of people.

I can remember many-a-times sitting in a room full of women, one lady on an elevated platform as my mother measured, pinned and prepared each lady at a time, matching the exact desires of the bride and groom.  It was so much fun for me as a young girl to tag along and watch the entire process from beginning to completion.

She would design and make dresses for the entire bridal party, from the bride to the cute little flower girls!

I can also remember my mother's offer to work as a fashion buyer for a major department store (choosing the clothes for that would land in the department store each season), her days as a key makeup artist and a house full of fashion magazines.

Not only did my mother's love for fashion drop like seeds into my little heart, but it has become the foundation and spring-board for my very own dreams and where I am headed today.

For me, fashion is a way to love people, connect with women from all different backgrounds and relate to them on a heart-to-heart level.

For me, fashion is a way to heal people, building up the self-esteem of the most broken but beautiful faces.

For me, fashion is a way to adorn people, placing emphasis on their greatest traits, learning their unique characteristics and bringing the best out in people- helping them to see their GOD-given beauty from the inside out!

There's nothing like dressing a model, doing a woman's make-up, trying on new clothes, matching up cool character pieces and creating a finished product- all while having fun and bonding woman-to-woman!

Fashion connects women together from different ethnicities, value systems and cultures...Bringing us all together, making a better world.

Fashion is a Bridge to my Past and my Future Destiny.

This is why I LOVE FASHION!

Antique Ralph Lauren Look

Today I had a chance to take an Antique Ralph Lauren photo shoot.  It was lots of fun and here are a few pics I ended up with that I thought you would enjoy!

I paired a corset with a basic brown undershirt and a patched jean skirt.  Both the corset and the skirt are Ralph Lauren pieces.

The shoes are from Target (Mossimo) and I am wearing gold hoop earrings with a curly fro (straw set).

Accessorize Your Fab!

Did you know that even in the fall/winter cooler months you can still rock sunglasses and hats?

I saw a blog post featuring hats & sunglasses yesterday and had to try it out today.  This look can be worn in so many really cool ways.

You can wear them during a cool fall day with classic black- a black turtleneck and limited make up can go really far and you will look like a Million Bucks!  You can also do it with a scarf thrown loosely around your neck.

Or, you can wear a cute dress like this and top it off with a brown hat like below or like the one I am wearing at the end of this blog.  And throw on some sunglasses, even in the winter months to add that extra edge and sense of style, completing your look.

And, June Ambrose is wearing these super-fly sunglasses.  I love unique looks like this, plus her red lipstick sets it off, contrasted by a stark white top.

Wear with a cute, curly fro or long, flowing locks!

Then there's the elegant scarf look, wrapped gracefully over your head with a gentle makeup look and broad sunglasses.  This is simply beautiful and screams, "I'm a lady with elegance and distinction...of personality and boldness."

But this look is incredibly chic.  Resembling an almost Western look, because the hat is tilted upwards, the earrings don't go overboard or look too gaudy.  There is a lovely flow with this combination.

Unique and Glamorous.  This Bandana with shimmery, gold sunglasses and a little "Bling Bling" is soo much fun...sure to lift your spirit no matter where you plan to go that day!

And we'll end off with a really bold, striking combination just for fun!  This head turning look really cool!  Bring the summer sun into the coolest days.  Wrapping your head (especially good for a bad hair day) with a pair of your favorite sunglasses will keep you fashionable on the roughest days.

And here's my very own take on the hat and sunglass combination.  I had a lot of fun putting this ensemble together because it's fun and it's very fab, bringing out the Jersey Gal in me!

This was fun ladies!  See you in the next post!

In Celebration of Edith Head's 116th Birthday!

The Return of Class is Constantly on my heart.

And, today I was going through one of life's hard moments where you have to make a conscious decision to keep going.  Then, lo and behold...I began to do a Google Search, only to find this picture of Edith Head.  How timely!  (All dresses!)

That began my fashion lesson on one of the greatest costume dress designer's ever known.  This eight time Academy Award winner brought fashion savvy, refined dresses to America's entertainment industry, fashion icons such as Audrey Hepburn.

May the Return of Class be America's heart beat again!

Nicole Miller Mixes Class with Modern Edge!

As a Classy Gal myself, I enjoyed Nicole Miller's Spring 2014 Line at NYFW this year.  She had classy pieces with a touch of elegance and artistic surprises throughout her line.

Here are a few of the pieces I enjoyed.  The subliminal originality is very much welcomed on this blog!

Her play with straight lines and cutting pieces mixed with strong hues of black, white and screaming bright greens (hair) was really fun.

I also appreciated the almost 1950s style hair styles and makeup (sweeping bangs, with strong red lips).

But she keeps it modern with graceful and fun pieces like leather tops, flowing skirts, biker jackets, ripped jeans, bold hair, mixed patterns and high heeled pumps.

What do you think about Nicole's line?

Black and White Polka Dots!

Hey everybody!  It took me a while to learn that everything in life isn't Black and White, but I still love the look and like to keep my friends that way!  (Know what I'm getting ahead of time lol)

What's your fave black and white combo?  Stripes, polka dots, or classic (no pattern)?
